Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport based on ground fighting, self defense and submission holds. Jiu-jitsu focuses on taking your opponent or training partner to the ground, controlling them and gaining a dominant position. Using a number techniques to force them into submission holds via, joint locks or choke holds as well as being able to maintain dominant positions.
Jiu-jitsu as a sport, the main objective is to submit the opponent by the use of technical submissions without the use of striking. If a submission is not possible, the winner will be awarded to the competitor with the most points. These points are granted based on positions obtained during the duration of the match.
